A high chair for babies with a white and light wood design.

The Silver Lining convertible highchair was developed as a team project, where I served as lead designer. Our goal was to create a piece that was safe, durable, and stylish — while also capturing a sense of fun for both parents and children.

Designed to grow with a child from infancy through toddlerhood, the chair balances practicality with playfulness. Its snug form provides comfort and security for little ones, while its adaptability ensures longevity in everyday use. Silver Lining demonstrates how thoughtful design can merge safety and imagination, making childhood essentials both functional and delightful.

What’s Special About it?

The Silver Lining highchair was designed to meet a child’s deep-rooted need for comfort and security. Inspired by the reassuring snugness of the womb, the chair creates a calming environment through both form and material choice.

Its sherpa-lined interior provides tactile softness, while a small blanket with a companion animal offers comfort and familiarity. Drawing on insights from child psychology and parental perspectives, our goal was to minimize restlessness and tears by designing a highchair that feels less like furniture and more like a nurturing space.

Ideation to Creation

The Silver Lining highchair was developed through creative collaboration, beginning with early sketches and evolving into a refined final design. Working alongside two peers and guided by an engineer, we balanced form, function, and style to create a piece that grows with the child.

The result is a versatile, collapsible chair that transitions seamlessly into a highchair with a simple click. Its backrest extends fully when comfort or closeness is needed, combining practicality with thoughtful design for both children and parents.

  • The baby chair features a polyester canopy coated with polyurethane paint for easy cleaning. The seat cushions are velcroed on and have removable microfiber fleece covers. The chair's legs are made of recyclable wood plastic, while the tray and crotch plate are made of food-grade ABS plastic. The frame, which includes collapsible pieces, is constructed from aluminum covered in plastic. Polyurethane, used in the canopy, is a composite material consisting of polymer resins joined by urethane links, backed by textiles such as polyester, cotton, nylon, or ground leather.

  • Each high chair can be molded into an animal that your child adores. The initial selection includes five different characters: a lamb, a frog, a dog, a cat, and a bunny. Each character is customizable in color, providing parents with a convenient and personalized experience.

  • As a team, our goal was to establish a system where customers can return their highchairs to the company in exchange for a discount on other products. This initiative promotes an efficient and eco-friendly cycle by allowing us to refurbish the returned highchairs, remake them using parts from the old ones, and sell them as new.
